Mental Health First Aid Training

Date and Time: November 1, 2017 - 8:30am to 5:00pm

Location: Memorial Lutheran Church  701 11th Street Nevada Iowa

Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) in conjunction with the Iowa Association of Community Providers is providing Mental Health First Aid instruction for adults. This is an 8-hour course that teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Topics Covered:

Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency - the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well. Persons trained will be able to create a Mental Health First Aid action plan.

  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Trauma
  • Psychosis
  • Substance Use disorders

This training is limited to the first 30 registrants and is free. Lunch is on your own.  We are hoping that direct care professionals, as well as any other provider staff,  will attend this training to give them additional skills to work with persons who have mental health and substance use challenges.
