Service Excellence - Emergency Series:Part 1: Preparation and Response to Weather EmergenciesDate: Thursday, August 7, 2025 Description: Being ready for an emergency involves more than just having a plan—it’s about knowing how to put that plan into action when seconds count. How do you operationalize your plan? Have you considered how to execute your response plan if your staff are also impacted? This session will not only help you assess and improve your organization’s emergency readiness, it will also provide you with tools you need to ensure your staff is personally prepared. The session will include a brief tabletop exercise to present participants with emergency scenarios to encourage everyone to work together and conduct rapid problem-solving. The session will wrap-up with dedicated time for Q&A with disaster experts. Attending this session will strengthen your organization’s preparedness as you work to ensure you and your team are ready to respond to all hazards. Presenters: Todd Jasper & Steve Warren Todd Jasper is an expert in disaster response and emergency preparedness with 20 years of experience in federal, state, and local government and the private sector. Prior to serving as Head of Global Crisis Management at Uber, Todd created plans for high-profile agencies like NASA, FEMA, HHS, DC Department of Health, Hawaii State Department of Health. Todd holds advanced certifications in crisis management and business continuity from MIT and Harvard University. Todd brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to every session, helping equip participants to respond effectively to any emergency. Steve Warren started his emergency services career 27 years ago with the Johnston Fire Department. He also worked for Midwest Ambulance, Story County Medical Center, the Altoona Fire Department, and the Polk City Fire Department. In 2008 Steve began working for the Iowa Department of Public Health as the Region 1 Education and Exercise Coordinator, working with hospitals, public health agencies, community health centers and the Meskwaki Tribal Health clinic providing training and exercise assistance. In 2010 Steve moved to a position with Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management as a Training and Exercise Specialist working with Emergency Mangers and other State partners providing training and exercise assistance. Steve worked in the Radiological Emergency Preparedness program from 2014 to 2019 as the Site Specialist for Duane Arnold Energy Center. In 2019 Steve transitioned to his current role as the State of Iowa Training Officer. Steve’s education and training include a Bachelors Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Political Science, an Associate’s Degree from Iowa Central Community College. Professional Certifications include Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I & II, Hazmat Operations, Trainer for IS 100/200/300/400, WMD Awareness, FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner, FEMA certified Instructor Trainer, FEMA certified Basic Instructor, FEMA certified Level I Continuity of Operations, and is currently certified as a State of Iowa Advanced EMT. Part 2: Lessons Learned – Real-Life Emergency Responses from IACP MembersDate: Thursday, August 21, 2025 Description: In this session, IACP members from across Iowa will share their firsthand experiences in responding to real-life emergencies. Through their stories, participants will gain valuable insights into the challenges faced, decisions made, and the lessons learned during critical situations. This session will highlight the resilience of community providers and offer practical takeaways to enhance emergency preparedness and response efforts in your own organization. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from real-world examples and strengthen your approach to managing emergencies.
