Considerations for: When Things Go Wrong A well-thought-out plan of action for times in which antecedent-based strategies do not prevent challenging behavior from occurring will increase the chances that all staff not only provide the same response, but also one that is actually therapeutic. This presentation will review a four-prong approach to responding to the challenging behavior of the language-abled individuals that you support. It will also review one tool, The Choice Point, which has the potential to be helpful with many people, provided the individual has had exposure to it prior to the moment "when things go wrong". Objectives: • Identify each step of the four-prong approach • Describe the main points of The Choice Point • Describe how The Choice Point could be used both proactively, and when things go wrong About Presenter, Susan Smith: As Director of the "Iowa's Technical Assistance and Behavior Supports" (I-TABS) program, Susan provides behavioral consultation to stakeholders throughout Iowa. Stationed at the Woodward Resource Center, she is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Behavior Analyst in Iowa.
