Description: Strategies for Building an Effective Board

  • Understand the different types of Board Governance to achieve your desired results.
  • Learn about the Board Building Cycle to create the most effective Boards to best suit your organization
  • Learn the importance of a Board Self-Assessment and how to best utilize Board Self-Assessment to effectiveness in your organization.

Training for this day will be a mix of PowerPoint presentation, small group application, and large group discussions. Participants will leave with a better understanding of their own Board of Directors and helpful strategies to take back to their organizations.

9:45am to 12pm - Training 
12pm to 1:00pm - Lunch

About The Presenter: 

Beth Morrissette, MPA & MSW has worked in the nonprofit sector for about 20 years; from direct services to Executive Director to Board Member. As an Executive Director, she helped lead a collective impact organization successfully build partnership across sectors and diversify funding sources.  She received her Masters of Social Work and Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Beth is a strong believer in giving back to the community and making it a better place for the future. Currently, she is an elected member of the Westside Community Schools Board of Education, serves on the United Way Community Impact Committee and on the Crossroads of Western Iowa Board of Directors.  Beth is honored to have been the recipient of the 2015 Ten Outstanding Young Omahans (TOYO) award and recipient of the University of Nebraska at Omaha CPACS Alumni award.  She and her husband are parents to a fantastic 16-year-old son and are former foster parents.  They were privileged to have developed and maintained a strong relationship with a wonderful foster daughter and her biological family.

Today, Beth is the CEO and owner of Parlay Consulting Firm.  She specializes in building organizational capacity through board governance, strategic planning, and implementation coaching.
