Service Coordinator

Lutheran Services in Iowa has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Service Coordinator in our Services for People with Disabilities (SFPD) program in Ames.  

DUTIES: This position will coordinate and supervise all Hourly Supported Community Living (SCL) and respite services and activities in service area (Ames, Marshalltown & Newton area). Service Coordinators are responsible for ensuring services delivered provide support, assistance, and instruction in areas that facilitate personal growth and independence, and/or relief from the responsibility of caring for a child/adult with a disability. 

Additionally this position will trains and supervises program supervisors, operates within budget, and ensures compliance with state, federal, and accreditation agencies. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will have a bachelor's degree in health or human service related field or education, as well as, three years experience in the human services field (disabilities or mental health preferred); plus two years of supervisory experience. A master's degree is preferred, but not required. 

This position requires a valid Driver's License, Auto Insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.

Independent Provider for LSI's Host Home Program

Becoming an independent provider for our host home program is an opportunity for you to change the world! If you are passionate about helping others and making a difference in your community, becoming a mentor might be for you. Becoming a mentor gives you the opportunity to host an adult with disabilities in your home.

The independent providers (mentors) will provide guidance, support, and care for the individual living in your home. you will be working with the mentee on goals which could include things like, shopping, budgeting coping skills, cooking meals, personal hygiene, and assisting them in ways to integrate into their community. You will be an advocate/mentor helping them to live their best life possible.

This partnership allows you to establish a meaningful relationship with the person you are hosting as you invite them to become part of your family.

This position is an independent contracted position not an employee of LSI. However, LSI does offer support and guidance and resources for training. There are training requirements and a home safety check before a match can be made and a mentee placed.

Currently looking for Independent Providers in the following locations: Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Des Moines and Waterloo/Cedar Falls areas.

Requirements:

  • You must be 21 or older
  • You must have a private bedroom available for the person you will be sharing your home with
  • You must be able to pass the screening process. Each independent provider must complete an in-depth screening process that includes background checks of the potential provider and all of the people who reside in the home who are over the age of 18, a three part interview, a home safety check, and several other reference checks.

Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa is seeking a Career Specialist to join our team.  The Career Specialist will provide training and development for Goodwill trainees in all areas of work skills, job search, job acquisition, and maintenance.  The Career Specialist will develop, implement, and administer the Individual Service Plan.  This position will schedule, supervise, advise and monitor activities of Goodwill trainees.  The Career Specialist will maintain records and casefile documentation per funder requirements.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Report and advise individual and referral sources of start date.
  • Must be able to implement and conduct job development and placement through contact with prospective job providers/employers.
  • Must be able to demonstrate personal and professional responsibilities, must have patience, understanding, flexibility and ability to adjust to unexpected or different situations; and able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.
  • Conduct trainee orientation and work practices.
  • Submit Individual Service Plan for review.
  • Receive team member(s) input, develop and implement Individual Service Plan based on functional goals.
  • Facilitate and maximize production, work behaviors and functional skills achievement through the implementation of appropriate/effective rehabilitation methods, techniques, and strategies.
  • Ability to conduct training and classes on all aspects of career exploration, work readiness, resume writing, application completion, job search, interviewing and maintaining employment.
  • Prepare, write and present ISP monthly/quarterly evaluations.
  • Prepare written staffing summary.
  • Teach, supervise, advise and monitor activities of trainees.
  • Maintain appropriate participation documentation to meet funding requirements.
  • Maintain attendance records.
  • Provide trainees safety training, and ensure safety and security requirements are followed.
  • Initiate and implement plans to motivate clients to achieve vocational goals.
  • Attend agency meetings, and in service training as needed.
  • Follow safety and security requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services, business, education, marketing, sales, human resources or related field from an accredited college.
  • One year of related experience required. Experience coaching or teaching others preferred.
  • Ability to pass Nationally Recognized Employment Support Professional Certification – ASPE’s Certified Employment Support Professionals (CESP) Exam.
  • Ongoing continuing education of four (4) hours yearly in Employment Services – has 24 months from the date of hire to meet the educational requirements and earn the professional certification required.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required.

GICI is seeking a Skills Trainer to train, supervise, coach, record and monitor activities of trainees.  The Skills Trainer will analyze, establish or adjust schedules for completion of training goals to ensure progress and completion of the skills curriculum.    We are seeking a trainer for the following areas-retail, janitorial, cafeteria, industrial services and hospitality.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide scheduling and supervision of skill area.
  • Utilize and provide training in the use equipment needed for the skill area.
  • Record and track progress of trainees.
  • Oversee the supplies needed for the skills area, and order and inventory supplies.
  • Motivate trainees to achieve goals.
  • Make suggestions for improvements in training methods and service quality, and maintain attendance records.
  • Must be able to problem solve and coach trainees to problem solve.
  • Monitor and verify quality of work performed by trainees.
  • Set, maintain and adjust training schedules as needed.
  • Follow safety and security requirements.
  • Attend organizational and departmental meetings and in service trainings as needed.
  • Maintain SDS on chemicals used and provide training on their use (if applicable).
  • Maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An AA degree or more in human services or related field or non-related field with professional training and/or experience in the skills area.
  • One year of related experience required. Supervisory, coaching or teaching others preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with trainees of all abilities, with team members and the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to work independently.
